HIST 376 – Exhibition Development and Design.

This course hadn’t been offered for a while, so the instructor–a new faculty member–combined theory with the planning of an actual exhibition she was staging in our campus’s Anthropology Museum. Our first assignments involved the process of collaboration on the planning of exhibition ideas, and then we were asked to construct our own exhibition within the context of the planned exhibition (this exhibition, Re|Collect: Remembering Childhood, ran from May 2016-Mar 2017). As a final project, I planned my own exhibit from idea to staging, based on the history of Route 66 in Southern California. The mock-up exhibition was created in SketchUp, a free software for 3-D design. The composition of exhibit labels was also taught.
